School Budget…again
Cohasset Schools Superintendent Sarah Shannon presented the first draft of next year's budget this week (link below.)
Level service would require a funding increase of 11.88% but "that level of increase is untenable given the current financial climate in Cohasset...the goal is to build an FY27 budget that reflects a 6% increase over FY26. A 6% increase equates to $1,489,835—meaning the district must identify $1,460,674 in reductions from our initial level service request."
Even getting to 6% will be a tough road given increases in health insurance and other areas.
The School department has covered shortfalls in the last few years with staff cuts, fee increases, and draining revolving accounts, but these tactics are running short.
The first step toward ensuring our schools remain among the best in the state is knowing the price tag, and it's going to require significant work to maintain our standing.
